About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we have Dr. Smith, an expert in public health and the lead instructor for the Certified Professional in Health Equity Research Methods course. Dr. Smith, can you tell us about your personal experiences that led you to focus on health equity research methods? GUEST: Absolutely, I've always been passionate about social justice, and during my PhD, I realized how health disparities are a significant aspect of systemic inequality. This inspired me to dedicate my career to health equity research. HOST: That's inspiring. Now, in your opinion, what are some current trends in health equity research methods that professionals should be aware of? GUEST: There's a growing emphasis on community-based participatory research, where communities are actively involved in the research process. Additionally, data visualization is becoming increasingly important for effectively communicating complex research findings. HOST: Great insights! Now, what are some challenges you face or observe when it comes to health equity research methods, either in practice or in teaching? GUEST: One major challenge is ensuring ethical conduct, especially when working with vulnerable populations. Another challenge is addressing the historical mistrust between marginalized communities and research institutions. HOST: Those are important issues to tackle. Looking to the future, how do you see the field of health equity research methods evolving, and what impact could this course have on students' careers? GUEST: I believe we'll see more interdisciplinary collaboration and an increased focus on addressing the social determinants of health. By completing this course, professionals can become leaders in health equity research, driving change and creating a more equitable world. HOST: Dr. Smith, thank you for your time and for sharing your expertise with us. We're excited to see the positive change that our course participants will make in health equity research. GUEST: My pleasure, thank you for having me. I'm looking forward to seeing the impact our students will have on health equity.
