About this Podcast
HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we have Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in environmental sociology and impact assessment tools. She's here to talk about the new course she's involved in, the Certified Specialist Programme in Environmental Sociology and Impact Assessment Tools. Welcome, Jane! GUEST: Thanks for having me! I'm excited to be here. HOST: Let's start with your personal experiences. How did you get into this field? GUEST: I've always been passionate about the environment and social equity. My journey began with a degree in sociology, and I gradually moved into environmental sociology, focusing on how our social structures impact the environment. HOST: Fascinating! Now, what current trends do you see in environmental sociology and impact assessment? GUEST: There's growing interest in social impact assessment and environmental justice. Also, tools like Life Cycle Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment are increasingly being used in decision-making processes. HOST: That sounds important. But there must be challenges in applying these tools and principles. Could you share some of them? GUEST: Absolutely. One challenge is getting different stakeholders on the same page, especially when interests and values differ. Another is ensuring that data is accurately collected and interpreted. HOST: I can imagine that would be difficult. Now, looking to the future, where do you see this field heading? GUEST: I believe we'll see more integration of social and environmental considerations in policymaking. Also, the use of digital tools and data analytics will likely become even more critical in impact assessment. HOST: It's clear that this course is very timely and relevant. Thanks for sharing your insights, Jane! GUEST: My pleasure! It's an exciting field, and I'm looking forward to seeing more professionals get involved. HOST: That's all for today's episode.
