About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we're talking with Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in the field of epigenetics and the instructor for the new course, "Executive Certificate in Epigenetics." Dr. Smith, can you tell us a bit about this exciting new program? GUEST: Absolutely, the course is designed for professionals in biotech, research, and medicine who want to deepen their understanding of epigenetics. We cover DNA methylation, histone modification, and non-coding RNA, and how these mechanisms play a role in health and disease. HOST: That sounds fascinating. From your experience, what are some current trends in epigenetics that you're seeing in the industry? GUEST: There's a lot of interest in the potential of epigenetic therapies for diseases like cancer. Additionally, the use of single-cell epigenomics is becoming more widespread, allowing for a more detailed understanding of cellular processes. HOST: Oh, that's really interesting. I can imagine that working with single-cell epigenomics presents its own set of challenges. Can you speak to some of the challenges faced in this field, whether it's in research or teaching? GUEST: Sure, one of the main challenges is the complexity and volume of data generated. It can be difficult to analyze and interpret, but that's why we include training in data analysis in the course. In terms of teaching, making the content accessible to those without a strong background in genetics can be a challenge. HOST: Yes, I can see how that would be difficult. Looking to the future, where do you see the field of epigenetics heading? GUEST: I believe we'll continue to see growth in the development of epigenetic therapies, and I'm excited about the potential for using epigenetics to improve personalized medicine. There's also a lot of research being done on the role of epigenetics in aging and neurodegenerative diseases. HOST: Dr. Smith, thank you so much for joining us today and giving us a glimpse into the "Executive Certificate in Epigenetics." It's clear that this course will provide valuable insights and skills for professionals in the field. GUEST: Thank you for having me. I'm looking forward to sharing my passion for epigenetics with the students in the course.
