About this Podcast
HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm thrilled to be speaking with Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in gerontology and the lead instructor for the Graduate Certificate in Aging Studies. Dr. Smith, can you tell us a bit about this program and what inspired you to create it? GUEST: Thanks for having me! The Graduate Certificate in Aging Studies is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to work effectively with older adults. I've seen firsthand the growing need for experts in this field and wanted to create a program that would make a real difference. HOST: That's wonderful. Could you share some current industry trends that are relevant to this course? GUEST: Absolutely. One trend we're seeing is the increasing need for culturally competent care for older adults from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, there's a growing focus on person-centered care, which emphasizes the unique needs and preferences of each individual. HOST: I see. And what challenges have you faced in teaching this subject, or that students might face while learning? GUEST: One challenge is helping students understand the diversity of experiences among older adults. It's important to recognize that aging is not a one-size-fits-all experience, and that there are many factors that can influence how someone ages. HOST: That's a great point. Finally, where do you see the future of aging studies, and how does this program prepare students for what's to come? GUEST: I believe that we'll continue to see a growing need for professionals who are equipped to work with older adults in a variety of settings. Our program covers geriatric care, long-term care, social gerontology, and health policy, giving students a well-rounded understanding of the field and preparing them for success in a rewarding career. HOST: Dr. Smith, thank you so much for joining us today and sharing your insights on the Graduate Certificate in Aging Studies. It's been a pleasure learning from you. GUEST: Thank you for having me, it's been a pleasure sharing my thoughts with your audience.
